Cardiovascular diseases are becoming one of the biggest killers in rural India and the country’s health care system is not ready to cope with it. Changes in dietary patterns of rural Indians, who are now moving onto westernized diets, rich in salt and fats and indulging in smoking, was responsible for an increase in the number of people suffering from cardiovascular diseases.
According to a World Health Organization estimate, India’s economic loss due to heart related disease could be $236 billion by the year 2015.
Many people in India affected by diseases don’t have access to adequate health care facilities. Added to this is the lack of insurance in Health care field. Because of this fact many lives of people are lost and a great number are forced to live severely handicapped lives.
Future hospitals should not only provide adequate health care services, but also need to do these at an affordable level.Preventive Medicine will play a critical role in decreasing the burden of diseases in the future.
